You should be aware that all residential
policies have "special limits" of coverage on some types of property.
Regardless of your total contents limit, the policy will state a
maximum coverage on certain specific items. A few
examples are:
Books, tools and instruments used for a
business, profession or occupation. This is particularly important for
mechanics, carpenters and other tradespeople.
Cash money and securities.
Expensive garden equipment such as rider
mowers and garden tractors.
Boats and boating equipment.
Computer software. The cost of gathering or
assembling information or data is not insured at all.
Some additional items are limited because
of their potential high values:
Jewelry, watches, gems, fur garments and
garments trimmed with fur.
Collectible cards (hockey, baseball), coin
or medal collections.
Manuscripts and stamp
collections.
Bicycles, including equipment and
accessories.
In order to have adequate coverage,
valuables should be appraised and special coverage should be
purchased.
If you have assets that may be
affected by any of the maximum coverages, be sure to review your policy or
talk to your broker.
