If you are living in rented
accommodation such as an apartment, house or mobile, you should consider
having tenant's insurance coverage. Your furniture and contents may not look
like they are worth much, but can you afford to replace them yourself if they
were stolen or destroyed? Following are a few facts about this type of
insurance:
Basic tenant's insurance policies
provide replacement cost coverage on common household items. In addition,
all policies will have "special limits" of coverage on some types of property
such as money, securities, computer software, jewelry, bicycles, garden
tractors, etc.
Tenant's policies provide an
additional 20% of the contents amount for additional living expenses. This
will provide coverage for any increase in living expenses necessary to maintain
your normal standard of living should you not be able to live in your residence
because of damage to it caused by fire, explosion, smoke, rupture or water
escape, subject to exclusions.
One important part of a tenant's
insurance policy is Personal Liability coverage. It will pay all sums you
become legally liable to pay as compensation for loss because of bodily injury
or property damage. It includes your personal activities, your use or occupancy
of premises and animals or pets you own or which are in your care. It will also
cover claims you are legally liable to pay because of property damage to
premises or contents which you rent, use, or are in your care, provided the
damage is caused by fire, explosion, smoke, rupture or water escape, subject to
exclusions.
Tenant's Insurance is an inexpensive
way to get peace of mind. Don't wait until it is too
late!!
